At Regreener, different partners offer projects with different approaches, goals, and methodologies. It can be time consuming to understand what each partner offers exactly. We want to make sure that it’s clear that Regreener offers the best projects out there, so we’ve made a summary of all our tree planting partners for a quick and easy overview!

Our partners: WeForest, Eden Reforestation Projects, ViridiAir, and their planting sites

Eden Reforestation Projects

Eden is a nonprofit NGO that works in developing countries to restore natural landscapes destroyed by deforestation. Currently, they are working in ten countries around the globe and are planning to restore more forests in four developing countries including: Zambia, Tanzania, Guatemala, and Belize. By having great relationships with local communities, they are able to achieve lasting success and plant and protect critical forests long-term. Alongside professionals, communities are thought to produce, plant, and protect tens of millions of trees each month. Jobs are created to support local and remote families in return for restoring their local environment and economy. Eden’s national directors are leading these communities with continuous determination through a wide variety of threats, from wild animals, poachers, extreme weather and landslides.

Regreener believes in the significance of creating long-term solutions, which is why we are in full support of Eden’s tree planting projects. Our partnership started in April of 2021. Together with Eden Reforestation Projects, we are currently planting Mangrove trees in Kenya and Mozambique. Research indicates that mangroves contain the highest carbon density of all terrestrial ecosystems, able to store carbon up to five to ten times more than mature tropical forests. Next to that, each tree planted is able to remove over 308kg of CO2 over its 25-year lifespan, or 12kg of CO2 per tree per year, which is of great importance to fight our climate crisis. Check out our project pages for more information on CO2, biodiversity, and social benefits!

As of now, Eden Reforestation Projects is the largest, most efficient reforestation organization in Kenya, maintaining over 45 project sites across the country. In Mozambique, their reforestation project currently contains 62 planting sites. Planting Mangroves in Kenya and Mozambique helps protect coastal communities from environmental disasters, remove carbon, and increase biodiversity while helping local communities rise out of poverty.

WeForest

WeForest was established in 2010 and is a non profit organization that develops holistic reforestation projects through a forest and landscape restoration approach. Their goal is to live in a world where communities and nature can thrive together to fight global warming in our lifetime. They work towards this goal by partnering with local communities to conserve and restore degraded forest landscapes, which contributes to delivering lasting solutions for our nature, climate, and people. As of today, they are restoring forests across 3 different continents and aim to reach a total of 100,000 ha, or 100 million trees, by 2025. WeForest’s restoration strategy consists of (1) preserving the remaining intact forests by improving local governance and reducing pressure on the buffer zones; (2) regenerating degraded forests by encouraging the natural regeneration of native species; and (3) establishing agroforestry systems that increase tree cover in farming landscapes and supply local families with food and wood.

Together with WeForest, we have supported the regeneration of forests through ANR (assisted natural regeneration) in Zambia (Copperbelt region), and Ethiopia (Amhara & Desa’a). Next to restoring forests, WeForest also offers alternative income programs to reduce pressure on the forests while enhancing food security and nutrition for local communities. This is done through beekeeping and charcoal initiatives. Projects are measured through mapping, audits, and indicators to ensure that forests are making a positive environmental and societal impact. Lastly, WeForest ensures the best outcomes by collaborating on applied research projects with universities and scientific institutes, investing in applied research in the areas of: Restoration science, climate change mitigation and adaptation, forest-water nexus, and protecting and restoring biodiversity.

Viridi Air

Viridi Air comes from Latin and means “green air". Founded in 2019, they contribute to the fight against climate change by planting unique trees which absorb high amounts of particulate matter, NOx, ozone, ammonia and CO2 through BBA technology in Belgium and The Netherlands. Their mission is to reduce emissions, increase awareness, and encourage companies to invest in clean air. Planting areas are carefully selected and are known for having a lot of wind and large quantities of air pollution to be filtered. To ensure long-term impact, diverse trees are planted in order for plants to thrive, grow big, and live long. Biodiversity is therefore considered of great importance.

Together with Viridi Air, we are planting purifying rows of very specific tree/hedge species in The Netherlands. These green filter strips remove 1.5kg of fine dust, 22kg of CO2, 500g of ozone, and 200g of NO2 (nitrogen) from outdoor air per year. Companies are only able to join Viridi Air’s projects when they can demonstrate that they have already contributed to clean indoor and/or outdoor air (with a product, service or company). We are proud of our partnership with Viridi Air!
