Regreener launches free tool to calculate carbon emissions

As a climate platform, Regreener focuses on supporting the world's best local and international climate projects. In addition to offsetting CO2 - a crucial component of any sustainability strategy aimed at taking responsibility for emissions - gaining insight into emissions is essential. Therefore, we are pleased to announce our newest tool: the Regreener CO2 Calculator. This tool enables companies to map CO2 emissions for free.

Why calculate CO2 emissions?

The European Union has set the goal of becoming climate neutral as a continent by 2050. All companies have a CO2 footprint. In the context of legislation (such as the CSRD) and climate change awareness, more and more companies are mapping their emissions. After calculating, it is possible for companies to work on a CO2 reduction plan and offset residual emissions.

Why is the tool free and for whom is it suitable?

We believe that every company should have the opportunity to embark on the path of sustainability with ease. Gaining insight and understanding of emissions is the first step in reducing your company's environmental footprint. The tool is ideal for SMEs and companies taking their initial steps toward mapping their CO2 footprint.

What does the tool calculate and how does it work?

The tool is based on the Greenhouse Gas Protocol. This is the internationally leading standard for companies to map emissions and focuses on the following 'Scopes': -* Scope 1:* company facilities and company vehicles - Scope 2: purchased energy - Scope 3: employee commuting and business flights

To calculate emissions by category, we rely on several leading data sources, including CO2-emissionfactors.nl and the ICAO.

Please note that the tool does not allow you to calculate your full ‘up- and downstream' emissions ins Scope 3. For this we work with our partners Coolset and Hedgehog Company.

CO2 calculation completed, then what?

Of course, calculating your emissions is only step 1. After that, it is important to analyze your emissions and form goals to reduce them. This could be done, for example, by purchasing green energy or electrifying the vehicle fleet.

Besides reduction, offsetting emissions is important. Research shows that companies that offset are on average twice as likely to offset compared to those that do not. In this way, organizations can pay for the damage caused today and make an important contribution to climate projectsthat prevent or remove CO2 emissions from the atmosphere.
